Factories today are often called plants, believed to be short for plantation.
Plantation probably just means production center historically, and it used to be most production centers were agricultural in nature. Farms are nothing more than plantations, then and now.

So is there an issue? If you say "I'm OOP next week" to your boss (Out Of Plant as in Out Of Office), which I hear all the time, are you a racist?

Do people only assign racism to these kinds of things because they want to, looking for an excuse? If one attaches racism to everything, can one say anything?
