To answer you question "what do we do about it" I am with T.S., stop worrying
about it. It is in the past and has no real affect today. The good that came from it was far outweighed by the bad. Did you know the South was actually worse off because of slavery? There was almost no industry (manufacturing) in the south until slavery was ended. Did you know that education, poverty and all the things that go with them were far worse in the South than the North? As for the slaves, sure they suffered but there is nothing you can do about the past. It is in the past. Many people of color have family that on both sides of the issue. So do they pay themselves reparations? I have a in my line someone who was key in the founding of the Republican party in the early years of this country. That party that was founded on the premise of abolishing slavery. So should I go around and demand that every descendant of slaves bow to me and give thanks? Of course not. I didn't do anything, I wasn't alive yet! There is nothing to do but I will point out something that TS mentions, if it is so bad for the US descendants of slavery today, why haven't they demanded or gone back to their native countries?

I agree with Morgan Freeman if you want to get rid of racism then stop talking about it.
