Often insurance sends an adjuster and estimates the damage. They they send you a check or your choice of repair facility who then fixes your car for the actual check amount. Happens with roofs a lot as well.

Essentially the estimate includes profit and all sorts of other fees to repair shop. If they can do it and still make profit it’s up to them.
