4th and 15 is almost too easy- 4th and 20 almost too hard

My guess is that 4th and 20 works more often than onside kicks.

4th and 25 from the 25. 1st down being the 50.

In BYU's experience the 4th down difference between too hard and too easy is 4th & 19. Two of BYU's biggest 4th down

Yeah, that could get ugly really fast for teams with bad defenses.

4th and 15 from where on the field? I think that’s important. If it’s from the

Maybe just a pass/fail? If you succeed you get the ball at the 50?

In either scenario it would be just get possession. I like the idea of having a

I think being able to kick a nearly automatic FG would be a mistake.

A FG would not count as a conversion
Lieutenant America

I mean if successful being able to kick a fg.

Gotta make it risky ie if you fail the other team is close for a td

Just give the other team the ball back at the 50 if they fail. Problem solved!

4th and 15 from the 30. Same place as the kick.

I think they should just reverse the kickoff rule changes for onside kicks.

I would assume the PI on this play would be no different than Hail Mary plays.

They could just put in a special rule that automatic first downs don't apply, so

Bad idea. But they need to figure out a way to make onside recovery more likely.

Why? Why do they need to make onside recovery more likely?

Sports are entertainment, it makes the outcome and finale more fun.
Nakedbootleg

Well for one, they changed the rules for safety, and success % died as a result.
TCuz

Shouldn't it be nearly impossible to retain perpetual possession?
DMVCougar
3/4/21 8:09am
It was nearly 21% before they changed the rules for safety. It fell to 6% and then bounced to 12% in 2019.

What are the stats on "expected" onside kicks?

Because we're cougs and we usually need this late in games.

A great idea. And can be tweaked to the perfect percentage. Whether that’s 4&15 or 12 or 18 or 23.
TCuz

4 & 20 from their own 15 only in last 2 minutes of a game.

It would be fun,but I hate that we would watch refs decide more games.PI anyone?

As long as an onside kick is still an option. Element of suprise is lost when

So can you still do a surprise onside kick?
