I caught an employee stealing a $15 item.
It was completely by accident. I had come in after work to get something from the supply room and caught him walking out with something he had no right to get without my permission. There were other people present and it was awkward. I’ll see him Monday morning and I know I’ll have to address it.
He is a college student and I really like him. The company I work for is very hard-nosed about this kind of thing. I know what my supervisor would demand I do, but I am struggling with the idea of turning him in. He is an extremely hard worker, generally worth two of the other guys I have.
I worry about him personally if I don’t do something. And I worry about him if I do. I could easily replace the item from my own pocket.
I would appreciate advice.
