Sky nerds, I need your help! What did I see in the sky early this AM?
So, this morning at about 2AM, I take my dogs out to pee, and look into the sky to see what I initially think is Mars. It’s roughly as bright as the brightest star in the sky, and it has a reddish tint to it. I look at it for a minute or two, and get this sense that it moves slightly. That couldn’t be, right? So I walk over and stand under a tree, and use the bare branches for perspective. Sure enough, the thing moves. So, I stand really still for a good ten minutes, and try to really focus (we’re on the bench in Draper, so there is quite a bit of light pollution). It’s moving; but there is no pattern to the movement. It would hold completely still, and then veer what must have been quite some distance, and then do a loop (think drawing small loops on scratch paper).

It seems to be definitely making its way east to west. I watch it for a good half hour, during which time it moves from about 10:00 to 11:00 in the sky - all the while doing these random veers and circles in the sky. I don’t know how many hundreds of hours I’ve laid out, looking at the night sky - I have never seen anything do this. I’ve seen plenty of satellites. But they all move in a consistent direction and pace. It seemed WAY too high to be a drone.

Any guesses on what I was looking at? I’ve been thinking about it all day.
