we were on a camp out. I was a shy, not athletic, super nerdy, super skinny, glasses wearing kid. I’m sure I was incredibly annoying.

Anyway, my dad was not active in the church and so I REALLY looked up to my deacons/scout leaders.

On this camp out one of the leaders brought a recorder he kept trying to play. The other boys kept making fun of how bad he was at it. I stumbled upon him playing it that afternoon and made a similar joke.

He tackled me, ripped up some weeds/grass and then rubbed them vigorously under my shirt on my chest and back to give me a rash and make me itch for the rest of the night.

At the time I remember thinking “man, why did I bug him? I must be super annoying to have deserved that“. Probably I processed things that way because my father used to hit me a lot.

Now as a 40 year old man I’m angry. I can’t imagine doing that to a kid.
