I think team defense was a bigger issue than any one individual defensive
effort. There are teams like the Rockets of recent years that have very simple systems and simply plug players who fit. For example, when you switch everything, you don't need a team full of basketball savants to be successful. Quin's schemes require players to think and think fast. The longer lineups play together, the better they get because that thinking becomes instinctual. Tonight, 3 non-rotation players got rotation minutes. Gobert is the best defender in the world. But even he can't make up for lineups that lack any experience playing together.
