I understand appraisals protect against fraud
But their number shouldn't be set in stone. Three appraisers looking at the same house are going to come up with different numbers for it. So why is a single appraiser's number treated as gospel? Banks should include some margin of error. So if a house has an offer on it and the offer is within the appraisal's margin of error, they'll still fund the loan.
