I hadn't even noticed it until they pointed out the expiration when I was going through security. They told me since I was flying home, they would let me fly with the expired license, but that if I were leaving from home on the first leg of my trip, they would not have accepted my expired license even if it had expired the day before my trip began.

I doubt that was any kind of official policy, but its one data point I'll pass on.
