Sucks, but it can also be an opportunity to build his body up in a way he might
not have if he was mostly playing.

I've heard some college coaches say that some kids who want to play in college might be better served by getting their body where it needs to be instead of their skills. Ideally, they want both, but in football for example, they'll almost always take the 6' 200 lb safety over the 6 ft 150 lb safety if the skills are close.

These things are always tough, but especially at those ages where they are trying to make first impressions with HS coaches.
