I don’t think this really would help him much IMHO.

Maybe negotiate a couple hundred thousand more. But when you go from (and this is a big wild guess) $1.5M to $4-5M per year, a couple hundred thousands isn’t worth it to your current employer because then they lose confidence in you because of your lack of loyalty.
