So they finally decided to bridge over the railroad tracks!
I was heavily involved in the trail around the Fisher Mansion. The Catholic church had offered it to the City for $80,000. The CAO decided against it, so it sat vacant for another couple years. The Catholic church started negotiating with a private couple who wanted to buy it. This couple was aware that the City wanted to complete the Jordan River trail and they didn't want that trail to come across their property and cut off their frontage/access to the river, so they spent many hours researching alternate routes for the bike trail so they would maintain their river access.

This couple met with City officials (me included) to confirm if the City had ANY interest in purchasing the mansion. Once I confirmed that the City had absolutely no interest in purchasing the mansion, the couple detailed the suitable alternative routes they'd identified because they knew that the City WAS wanting to complete the trail through that section.

Two days later, the Catholic church called the City and offered it one more time (presumably before they agreed to the terms with this couple). Out of obligation to the church and being a dutiful employee, I ran this offer through our NEW CAO, who jumped at the chance to buy the property. The City had the property appraised and finally purchased the mansion for over $400,000. Then the mansion sat vacant for several more years because City Administration couldn't figure out what to do with it.
