Advice for dog owners
Assume that people don't love your dog as much as you do. In fact, it's even safer to initially proceed as if they dislike your dog.

When you start with those assumptions you allow them to proactively tell you if they want your dog to:

jump up and put their paws on them when they walk in your home,
almost knock over your 9 month pregnant wife by jumping on them too much,
sniff your crotch all during dinner,
rest their doggy head on your crotch while you sit on the couch after dinner,
constantly hump your little toddler,
ask if they can bring their dog to your home when they come for visits,
bring the dog anyways, even after you tell them the dog is not invited,
insist the dog will stay tied up outside during the said visit but actually end up letting the dog into the home at some point against your wishes,
behave as if it's cute when the dog runs around your house,
do nothing to restrain an otherwise misbehaving dog except for repeatedly calling the dog's name and telling it to "knock it off".

I will leave poop and barking for another rant.

If they don't proactively tell you they want those things to happen, it's very safe to assume they absolutely don't want those things to happen.
