There is really no need to slow smoke tri tip. The meat is too lean for low and slow.
And, no. The foil thing is to push the meat through the stall. Tri tip doesn't stall.

Smoke at 225 until 125 internal then reverse sear to 135.

No foil, but if you smoke it at 165 till it reaches 130 to 135 you can get
