No foil, but if you smoke it at 165 till it reaches 130 to 135 you can get
Incredible smoke flavor. Personal preference of course on how smokey you like it. Low and slow totally works just don't take it to 200+ like you would with a briskey

Smoke at 225 until 125 internal then reverse sear to 135.

There is really no need to slow smoke tri tip. The meat is too lean for low and slow.
