Mars Helicopter takes flight

Ok, so 10 feet off the ground and only 30 seconds .... BUT it flew!!!

Pretty amazing to read about what they designed. with 1% of the earth's atmosphere you have to spin the rotors 5x faster to get lift. BUT with lower gravity, you don't need as much lift, but then testing that here on earth was a trick too!!!

The craziest thing I read was that the majority of the power is used heating the helicopter in the martian cold so that everything doesn't freeze up. MOST of the energy the solar panels collect each "day" is used to heat the instruments during the "night"

{I hear in the back of my head the line from Big Bang Theory ..."He told me I could drive a car on Mars..." well now it's "He told me I could fly a helicoptor on Mars!!"}
