We also saw 3 wolves playing on an island in the Yellowstone River as it winds through the Hayden Valley. That was fun.

Also, 2 years ago my boys and I were backpacking in the Uintas and we heard a wolf call. It started way off in the distance, and they another call closer, then another one ever closer, but I don't think it ever was closer than 1/4 mile away. I tried to record it on my phone, but only got the very end of it.

I told a ranger about it, but he assured me there were only coyotes in the Uintas. I'm pretty sure he wasn't telling me the truth. I know the difference between coyote calls and wolf calls, and this was definitely wolf.
