are pushing SS off until age 70. Can't get a better return on that money for life. My wife had an HSA and we are burning through it every month. Crazy expensive meds, but lifesaving, so you just eat the cost.
Hopefully our next mortgage payment will be the last. We have decided to go with zero debt from here on out. We are probably giving up a ton of future equity to do it, but at least it will be safe and in a trust. The basement apartment rents for more than all the utilities, upkeep and property taxes. We count ourselves very lucky in this economic environment to be able to pull that off.
We are embarcing on a new venture to see if we can live off our garden for six months of the year. It might be rough this year, might lose that extra 20 lbs after all. But we figure if we can take that first step, then we can double or triple the size of the garden and be OK.
As soon as the house is paid off we will install solar to take care of the electrical and most of the heating, that should further reduce our dependency rate. Actually taxes and church are our biggest expenses, one is a blessing to pay, the other a pain in the butt.
