RE: My neighbor had a funny experience at the DI
a quick story about the DI.
I used to live in Provo. When my first child was born I stayed at the hospital the entire time next to my HCBW to be helpful. It turns out she has a button she can push to call in a nurse who takes care of her much better than I could in the hospital. I found out I was basically useless and ended up sleeping on the most uncomfortable couch ever invented. I was pretty useless to my wife.

2nd child is born and I decided to pop home and take a quick shower while my HCBW was taking a well deserved mid day nap after bringing a child into the world, since I learned how useless i was during the first child birth. While at home I decided to tidy up the house a little to help my wife not have to worry about anything when she came home from the hospital. The house was cleaned and I ended up taking a truckload of never-used stuff to the DI since it was up the street from the hospital.

3rd child is born and I am feeling like a pro now. I know my opinion is neither needed or wanted in the after-birth hospital room. My HCBW takes the deserved mid-day nap and I quietly excuse myself to go home and shower and clean the house like last time. Only this time I ended up taking 3 loads of never used stuff to the DI. Included in the loads were 4 white wicker baskets with blue inner liners that had never been used and only moved back and forth for years during house cleaning without ever serving a useful purpose. I go back to the hospital finish my wait for my HCBW to be discharged. We go home and a couple of days later she is feeling okay and asks me to watch our family so she could go out and do something to get her mind off of....well frankly us. She decided to go to the DI and kill some time looking at other peoples refuse. She was ecstatic to find a couple of white wicker baskets that exactly matched the other ones she had been saving downstairs waiting to find some more that matched. She was not impressed, at all, with my cleaning skills after she found out that she only bought her own baskets back and only got 2 out of the original 4 back to boot.

When the our 4th child was born I was required to stay in the hospital the whole time until she was discharged. Every time I take anything to the DI now, it has to be rechecked to by her to make sure I am not sending something I deem worthless which she would happily by more of if she could find any.

Moral....Take stuff to a different DI that your HCBW wont shop at, so you don't get in trouble for ditching something you don't have approval to dispose of.
