Gotcha. I'm totally bias because I played there but I wish BYU would recruit
Kahuku harder. These offers are good signs. There is so much talent and dedication to the sport there and the roots run very deep. The football culture really cannot be fully appreciated from the outside. I'm sure you know that. The school is almost like the gateway for all football in the LDS Polynesian community. You will almost never speak to an LDS Polynesian football family in UT, CA, NV, WA, OR and most other places where they do not have direct family ties to Kahuku. The team is almost synonymous with family. When they travel to the mainland huge crowds show up to watch the games and support their youth.

It used to be that Kahuku and BYU were tied at the hip but in my youth other teams like Utah, Oregon and Washington made big in roads there while BYU seemed to underrecruit players there. I think what needs be better understood by staff and fans is that while Kahuku produces incredible talent, sends groups of kids to D-1 schools yearly and has one of the largest NFL alumni cultures in the country, the greatest long-term benefit from strong recruiting there is ties to Polynesian football families and culture.

You probably have a better feel for it that I do but I feel that Kalani has been doing a much better job with Kahuku than coaches from the decades proceeding him. I still think we should be dropping a BYU coach in at nearly every game Kahuku plays just to be embedded in the culture. Shoot, send them to some pop warner games too. Kids are already deciding where they want to go before they hit school. Probably unrealistic but the dividends would be huge over time.
