My son might just be more mature than me
He was pitching in a baseball game and his team was winning by a wide margin (10+ points). So it's the last inning and a friend of his gets up to bat who is a great kid, but doesn't really have an athletic bone in his body. After a few balls, the kid hits a little dribbler right back to my son. He turns and makes the throw to 1st to get him out. I remember telling him he's lucky our 1st baseman is tall because he nearly overthrew it.

I later find out that he told my wife he felt bad for how bad the other team was losing and knows that his friend rarely gets on base. So he was trying to walk him without it being obvious. Then when his friend hit it right to him, he was trying to overthrow 1st base but didn't throw it high enough.

What amazes me is even when I mentioned that he was a bit careless and nearly missed that throw to 1st; he didn't say anything about it being deliberate (at the time I didn't even realize that it was his friend batting).

In summary, he's 12 years old and already has a better idea of what's important than most of the kids - and adults - at that game. I was pretty dang proud.
