The rumor is that the prosecutor tried to reduce the charges and the Judge would not let him. Since no charges have actually been filed, I find this part very hard to believe. I suspect the players have only had their bail hearing and that bail was set and they were released. I have never had a judge tell me what charges I could file. I have had a few marginal cases in which we agreed with the defendant on a compromise, the victims protested to the judge and the judge did not approved the deal. Since my evidence was weak on those cases, I ended up dismissing them.
