Did my typical dad thing and turned a 1 minute project into a multi-hour project last night.
I have satellite internet through Rise Broadband. The little prong on the Cat 5 plug has been broken for years. Last night my techy brother in law was here with his plug crimper making some new cable for our remodel so I figured why replace the satellite plug because it's always falling out of the switch box. We clipped off the plugged and cannot get another connector to go on. After awhile we decided to bag that and just run another Cat5e cable from the satellite to the switch. No internet. So then we get Cat 6 cable and connect. Still nothing. I called and they can't get out here until Thursday. They are showing that I'm getting no power to my satellite. Everything is plugged in and has lights on. I'm back to trying to replace the original connector. Is there some special connector? And any idea why another Cat 5e or Cat 6 cable isn't working?
Here is the other end of the cut cable
Here's the plug we cut off to "fix"
