Are there any unsafe parts of Anchorage to stay away from?

Thinking both in terms of hotel and doing things. Will a hotel in the downtown area be ok? Or do we want to stay away from that part?

It’s mostly bear-on-bear crime in the downtown area so you should be fine.

It's all fine. Anchorage is little bigger than Provo. And the "rough" parts are about similarly not-dangerous. We're it

Most areas you should avoid are not hotel areas or very touristy

This is spot on. The rough areas are generally not tourist spots.
