There will always be the issue of how good of a bowl they'll get. And if there is a contraction of bowl games, then there will certainly be fewer options. There's also the issue of a lack of different opportunities if you are tied to just one bowl game contract year after year.

But all things considered - I'm OK with BYU having a contract with ESPN that guarantees them a bowl game if they are eligible.

Not really. BYU is always going to go to a bowl, and outside the NY6 bowls, one is no better than another these days.
