ESPN promised a bowl game for BYU

We have a contract that ESPN will help BYU get in a bowl in 2020, 2022, and 2024. After that we are on our own.

Not really. BYU is always going to go to a bowl, and outside the NY6 bowls, one is no better than another these days.
