This is assuming the scenario of top 12 ranked teams get in regardless
conference affiliation. Which is one possibility I heard discussed. If they go with top 6 ranked conference champions it may indeed be a better benefit to join a conference, other than how it might effect recruiting vs the current model and scheduling.

6 highest ranked conference champs is an invite for BYU to join the AAC. Because 6 best at large will be tough to make.
