I’d never backpacked out east and definitely underestimated the steepness of the trails. Where we’d have multiple switchbacks they just went straight up the mountain with tree roots to hold back erosion. My 10y/o wasn’t tall enough to take the “steps” formed by the roots so it was rough going for him. We started at gulf Hagas which we all agreed was the best part of the trip.
