Your friend's story is familiar.
In my first marriage she would spend so much that I couldn't save any money. She didn't care either. Made me hate my job and working. Your friend may not hate being a doctor if he knew that every day he went to work he was actually building something.
Once I was divorced and actually saw some fruits of my labor then I started to enjoy my job again.
I freaking hate working and watching it all go away to nothing. There is nothing worse than putting in a ton of hours and not seeing any benefit at the end.
