and my daughter ran down and found feathers in the hallway leading to the bathroom. She opened the door, and her cat looked up at her with a woodpecker between its paws. She ran up to tell me, and I came down and found the cat sitting in the room, with a lifeless bird laying flat on the ground next to the cat.
I figured the bird was dead, so I grabbed a broom and pan to scoop it up. As I did, the bird flew up into my face and into the living room, just missing my daughter's head. The cat leaped after it. The bird flew back and forth in the room, desperate to find an escape as the cat continued his hunt. The bird lost the cat by hiding behind my computer monitor. I shooed the cat outside and caught the bird in a net. I was relieved as the bird flew away up into the trees. I thought it was a goner.
