they have the advantage of being placed somewhat out of time, yes there's some minor involvement of modern technology like a car here or there, but no cell phones, computers, etc. mostly it's horse drawn carriages and trains so it's already anachronistic today. that will help it age well.

and there's really nothing else like it- like Lord of the Rings were generally big for us as teenagers despite being written well before our time.
