If the system were in place in 1996, #5 BYU at 13-1 would have easily been in over the highest ranked 3-loss teams #15 Michigan, #16 Alabama, #18 Notre Dame, and #19 Miami. And I don't even think BYU would need to start the season ranked to make it. As long as they make the top 25 by the end of Sept., I think they could climb enough. In 1996, BYU was unranked as late as Sept. 16 after the Washington loss and then climbed into the top 10 Nov. 11, finally reaching #5 Dec. 9 after beating #20 Wyoming.
