I would never begrudge anyone checking out
Clearly the degree of difficulty of mortality is calibrated in such a way that 700,000 people annually determine they just can't do it anymore.
With mental illness, there really is no relief in this life — meds, therapy, fellowship can be limited coping tools, but that torment is always there until the next life.
It's healthy to look on the bright side: No kids were involved. I think his loved ones should be comforted knowing that he moved on from the overwhelming anguish that is mental illness.
