I've found that it's more helpful to try to find common ground or being a judgment-free listener is more helpful than being condescending when someone is at the beginning of coping with emotional tragedy.
*Well I didn't feel that way" to someone grieving may seem like what Jesus would do in a similar situation, but I'm not so sure that's true.
Ha ha. I can do it too. Condescension is so ugly.
Of course, if a guy harbors anger for months, that's a different situation entirely. Regardless, it would be a rough one and urging would probably be best received from someone who had been friendly.
