have basically replaced by newer, more effective drugs that are still frequently prescribed for migraine headaches. They are typically prescribed in much lower doses than they would be if used for depression. I take amitryptylin and it seems to really help my headaches. It also makes me very tired. If I take it about 3 hours before bedtime, I sleep like a baby. I've noticed no mood alteration whatsoever.
