The earlier comparison to the blazers got me thinking, there’s a lot more
Similarities than I’d like to admit. Both teams have:
- premier but undersized guard lineups that can take over offensively but will always struggle defensively (lillard and Mitchell are pretty similar, Conley is probably ahead of McConnell)
- a decent 3&D wing who can survive but can get overmatched (I don’t think there’s much difference between O’Neal and Covington but most would pick Covington)
- a offense first wing who tries to survive on D (Bogey is better IMO, but Ross was having a pretty good season)
- An old school big who can wall off the rim but is limited on offense (this is the biggest difference as gobert is on another level as a defender but nurkic can at least bully people in the post).
In short the jazz are a better version of the blazers but the difficulties both have had in the playoffs asks some real questions about whether this roster make up can work in the playoffs. It ends up being a question of it Donovan or lillard can score 50 and even then it’s not always enough. Yes this is a bit of an over generalization but the similarities are real and end result have been as well.
