it takes 48 weeks of working minimum wage. And thats not including room and board and books. Sure when you graduate college you arn't making minimum wage. But a lot of people don't make much more than that when they go to college. It was easy to work a decent summer job at home in the 60's and pay for a year of school, that is impossible today unless you are a master at conning old people into buying solar panels.
I'm sure Lifi and other worked hard back then. But kids today often are working just as hard, but its way harder to pay that off today because wages havn't risen proportionately with tuition.
So a couple points:
1.)We shouldn't do debt forgiveness, it still would be unfair to people who worked for a scholarship, went to the military, or paid off their loans. Also it would disproportionately help the wealthy.. But the government should get out of loans, and more kids should go the Community College route
2.)People like Lifi should knock off the "i worked hard, its not any harder today, kids are just lazy..." Its nonsense and a boatload of data shows that wages havn't risen concurrent with tuition.
