Andy Staples opines that divisions may be on the way out,
especially in the autonomous conferences.
As it stands now, under the proposal, most of those conferences will place two teams in the top 12.
The danger of having divisions is that a 3-4 loss team in one division could win the division but wouldn’t have a chance a being ranked high enough, even if it won the conference championship.
Eliminating divisions would put the two best teams in the conference championship game, in reading the chances that both teams made the top 12.
