I can imagine that when TV contracts are up for negotiation, once any conference can offer 2 or more teams in 3 in three different timezones, which if I am not mistaken doesn't currently exist, that conference will hold a very powerful bargaining chip. There is no way I'm smarter than these conference decision makers so this surely is being discussed.
If a conference holds that card, they can fill all the slots that TV nerworks need, including 830pm MT. The reason BYU has a halfway decent contract with ESPN is because they can amd will fill that 8pm spot. PAC obviously does, but that's just one conf. Imagine Big12 or B10 sitting regularly in that spot in addition to their current slots.
Perhaps the biggest hurdle for this is schools willingness to join a conference where they have to travel so far, probably not for football, but other sports.
I believe that BYU got a strong look last time from the B12. I believe it didn't happen mostly because there wasn't another desirable option found in the west to fill the late hour timeslots.
This rumor surely is garbage, but arizona schools with BYU is intriguing for the reasons I mentioned. 3 schools is the west would be strong.
