Are there commonly Silicon Slope Sleeze ball hiring tactics going on right now?
My son was given a promotion at his company, he negotiated a salary, was given a signed offer and he signed it.
He was working in his new job for a few weeks and he gets his first paycheck after the promotion, and it is for significantly less money than what he thought so he checks with his HR person to see if they missed something.
She has him meet with the CEO of the company today and he is informed that they want a redo and re-offer him the job, at 10K less salary per year than what he signed on for.
So my son calls me and loops me in while he is in the office with the CEO, because I have been in a position in my job where these types of HR situations get escalated to me for many years and I am very familiar with labor laws.
I lay out the basics of where things stand, I read the job offer and while it says job offer, it meets the legal definition of a job contract the way it is written, so I tell my son, they are wanting to break the contract and renegotiate, which is totally legal in an at will state, but what kind of sleeze ball hiring tactic is that?
Is this a common thing going on in Utah Valley at tech firms or did my son just find a bad apple?
