Improvements in three point percentage under Coach Pope:
Several on here have expressed concern over the lackluster percentages that our incoming transfers have shot from three. So I decided to look back at how other players have improved their three point accuracy playing for Pope at BYU.

Yoeli Childs: improved from 32% to 48% from deep from his junior year to his senior year (Pope’s first at BYU)

Jake Toolson: was always a great three point shooter, but shot his career best percentage his senior year at BYU.

Alex Barcello: shot 30% and 29% from deep in two seasons at Arizona, has shot 48% and 47% in two seasons at BYU.

Brandon Averette: 35% from deep last season at BYU after shooting 27% and 32% in his previous two seasons.

Te’jon Lucas is about a career 30% three point shooter, but has been streaky at times and has had games in his career where he has lit it up from three. Seneca Knight is around 29% for his career, but he was also the focal point of defenses on a very bad team. He also had games where he lit it up from three, but was streaky.

I would expect both guys to improve upon their three point percentages at BYU. Maybe neither will become elite from three, but playing in a more spaced out system where neither one of them will be expected to be “the guy” should help them both. I love that they are both guys who can create and can get to the rim. That is something that should help make AB even better as teams won’t be able to just take him out of the game and dare other guys to score.

I think Knight is an awesome final piece to this team. If he and Tejon can gel with the group quickly, and if Caleb and Gideon can continue to improve on the progress they made last year, I think this team gives us our best chance to advance in the tournament in a decade.
