I've got a toothache that kicked off a couple of days ago.
The dentist I'd been going to, who I love and trust, retired. And I readily admit that I have trust issues with dentists.
So I went in and saw a new guy. He says that tooth in question is abscessed and has a bad infection. It's a tooth that has a crown and has already had two root canals in the past.
He's telling me that as it's already been treated twice and has gone bad again, if I were to go to an endodontist they would be looking at extracting it as it isn't a great candidate for a 3rd root canal treatment.
So - here's my 2 questions -
1 - Does that sound right? Not that I'm hoping for a 3rd root canal on this tooth, but is that pretty typical for situations like this with a tooth that has had multiple prior root canals? Or should I be going to another dentist for a 2nd opinion?
2 - Assuming I go the extraction route - what are the pros and cons of an implant vs a bridge? Which would you recommend?
And - assuming that someone will respond - thanks for sharing any expertise/advice in advance.
