BYU had the perfect storm of other teams losing around them. If Miami or Notre Dame or Alabama or UCLA had also gone undefeated that year, BYU would not have been #1.
However, with the way the system has changed, I would argue that even if Utah or BSU was the only undefeated team in their year, the voters would have found a way to rank a Bama or Texas or whoever ahead of us. It's not sour grapes, it's just the way CFB is today.
I believe you posted elsewhere that a tournament with each conference champ + at large invites is the way to go. I couldn't agree more. And if BYU or Utah or (puke) Boston College were to win the tournament, then congrats to them for winning it on the field.
