Aresco indicates that the AAC will aggressively seek to acquire Big 12 schools and demand the other five conferences give them autonomy.
A couple of points.
As members of an autonomous conference, the Big 12 members received just shy of $7M in CFP distributions. When CFP expands, increased revenue projections estimates that the per team payout will be $14M-$21M
The AAC shared $92M with the other G5 conferences. Each team is guaranteed $1M; the remaining $27M is divided based on performance on the field and in the classroom.
Expanded CFP revenue projections would boost the distribution pool to $180M-$270M, giving each school at least $2M-$3M.
Somehow, I don’t serving 12 schools flocking to the AAC and giving up all that money.
The second point is that the autonomous conferences are not the one that bestow autonomy. That comes from the 357 schools that make up Division 1. The AAC needs a simple majority from the membership go gain autonomy.
