BYU doesn’t get enough credit for surviving the P5 era.
The Mountain West invited Nevada and Fresno State just to blow up our ESPN deal.

The Pac-12 decided that after they couldn’t get Texas the thing their confidence needed was Utah. Which, great, congrats for them. They’ve done well with it.

BYU just posted a ranking of 17 in the directors cup for this past year.

The list is incredible.
Spots 1-16… P5 teams.
17: BYU.
Spots 18-50… also P5 teams.

Football was finally ranked again and even if it took a huge effort to play anyone with a fair offer, it was a fun team.

Basketball is good. Heck, soccer and volleyball are good.

Teams like Iowa State are staring down the barrel of their worst nightmare and asking, “but what will we do!? What’s to become of us now!?”

BYU has already done that.

Who knows what will happen, but my sense is there is very small group of haves in the new football world. Maybe as small as the SEC and Big 10.

If we’re going from a power 5 to a power 2, there’s going to be a much bigger middle class in college football.

Most of them will be pissed off about being left out and whine endlessly about the good ol days when they felt like they were on the inside because they happened to be in the same conference as a heavy hitter.

Welcome to not-quite P5 and not-quite G5 world, all the rest of you. We’ve been here for 10 years and we actually managed to get better. Let’s see how all the rest of you handle it.
