Supposedly ESPN bought out a provision requiring they get to 12 for more content and upped their payouts for 10 to stay there. They expanded on that same deal in 2019. That deal is in place through 2025. (see below)
ESPN/Fox also declined to redo the B12 deal early back in late May. The B12 wanted to try to keep up with the SEC, but the networks declined. This is also most likely what prompted Texas and OU to look elsewhere. By coincidence or by design. (see Below) But it will also help lock in that deal through 2025.
Point being I do not see the B12 going to 12 right now due to $$$, not unless the other 2-4 take lower cuts through 2025. Maybe in 2024 for their next deal negotiations for 2025 they add 2 more. For now they just need to get to 10, and must choose the best 2 to help perception. Has to be BYU and Cincinnati for right now, then 2 others next go round.
If the new 2-4 take lesser cuts through 2025, they go to 12. P12 did that with Utah, so I could see it. But they have to get to 10 ASAP regardless.
