The SEC isn't just interested in expanding. Their goal is to actually become THE college football league. This isnt just about a little more money or prestige. Its about consolidation. And at this point I fully expect further consolidstion, including programs like FSU and Clemson.
Programs like Vandy, Kentucky, and the Mississippi schools should feel a little nervous about their place in the world.
USC is in a really bizarre situation. I dont see how there is anyway they can maintain the status quo. Somethings gotta give. Imo, the most likely scenario is tha USC and a few other programs (Stanford, UCLA, and probably Washington or Cal) will join the BIG. If this doesnt end up happening, then USC will unquestionably force unequal revenue sharing or go independent. Why they've allowed programs like Utah and Arizona and Wazzu to ride their coattails, Ill never understand.
The playoff as we know it is toast. The whole modelnis about to be blown up. Conferences arent going to matter anymore. Its going to be about getting the best teams from the 2 big superconferences in. If the playoff expands to 8 or 12, expect half the teams to be SEC programs and most of the others to come from the BIG, maybe a token ACC and another from the best of the rest crowd, which will probably usually be a program like Oregon or TCU.
