Last year’s offseason for the Jazz was historically bad
First they did this:

To make matters worse, they drafted Azubuike with McDaniels and Bane on the board. A team that was desperate for wing help missed out on 2 players that addressed an immediate need and would have likely been in the rotation and good pieces for the future.

Now, it’s looking like this will likely happen with Favors:

The Jazz screwed up so bad last year that they’ll likely have to shed their pick to unload Favors in a deep draft.

For what the Jazz paid him, the Favors deal never made sense. Rim protecting bigs are a dime a dozen in the NBA right now. They can be found for cheap. And the Jazz forked out 30 mil and a 3 year player option to a guy that was showing major signs of wear a tear the year before. All of this while knowing they would be in salary cap hell at the conclusion of this year.

So now the Jazz get to work this off-season to unravel what they did last year. And instead of finding cheap wings that every team is desperate for, they’re going to dump contracts and unload assets to find what they could have had last year in the cheap and potentially this year in the draft.

If Mitchell decides to leave, look no further than how the Jazz screwed up the 2020 offseason. Small market teams can’t afford those types of misses that defy logic.
