My humble opinion...
I don't have a problem with her withdrawing for mental health reasons. People do it every day. At my job, people call in every day saying they need a mental health day. It's much more mainstream than it was even 10 years ago. It'll only continue to grow. I personally don't understand it, but I've been told more than once that I'm just a middle-aged white man and I don't understand.

My wish would have been that she would have withdrawn in enough time for another girl to step in. If Tom Brady, Donavan Mitchell or Mookie Betts take a step back, someone else has the chance to come in and play for the team. I feel for Jade Carey, McKayla Skinner and other alternates who put a lot of time and effort into trying to qualify for the olympics only to have Simone compete in one event and withdraw.

I get it- Simone made the team and it's her decision. I just wonder what would have happened if another athlete had the chance. Jordan Chiles and Grace McCallum deserve massive credit for stepping in and competing in events they hadn't planned on. I'm hearing former gymnasts telling the world we don't understand. They're right, we don't. But if it was their kid who was next in line, I suspect they'd be a bit upset.

At least Jade Carey gets to go in the all arounds. Good on Simone for making that decision in enough time to let another athlete compete.
